Texas Luau |
Jun 23 2009 |
My name is Victoria Levine and I have lived in the Dallas area for over twenty years. My passion to help children in the darkest of circumstances has brought me to you. Growing up near Mexico's Tijuana border made a big impression on me and my feelings about less fortunate children, thus driving my desire to help them. A few years ago, a client and dear friend of mine, was diagnosed with terminal cancer during the pregnancy of her ninth child. Although, I could not save her, I felt I had to do something. Together, with a friend, we hosted a fundraiser that was a great success and drew national media attention. In my family, hosting a luau has been an amazing tradition passed through several generations. I now see the Texas Luau as an opportunity to incorporate my passion and desire to help neglected and abused children locally by teaming with Supporters of Children's Charities (SCC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 1995. The mission of SCC is to enrich the lives of children "at-risk" by providing both financial and volunteer assistance to programs, events and organizations throughout the community that support our cause. With a passionate and motivated support team and structured organization that can maximize our potential, we cannot only raise funds, but create awareness for imperiled children through the promotion of our event. The need is crucial and together we are determined to make a difference.

For Immediate Release – February 24, 2008 For Additional Information Contact: Greg Johnson phone: 214-714-2450 email: gjohnson@marcusmillichap.com
Most, if not all, of us have been inspired by celebrities we’ve seen on television, in the movies, on stage, on the playing field, in the arena, on the court... Celebrities who inspire us most are generally those who display the highest levels of motivation, beauty, strength, and/or courage. Often, our greatest inspiration comes from the personal stories of those who have overcome incredible challenges throughout his/her lifetime to achieve goals most would render unattainable. And these are the ones we feel deserve even greater celebration. To honor them, we hold elaborate awards ceremonies; build Halls of Fame; immortalize them in statues/monuments, name buildings, highways, and parks after them, etc.
Although deserving of such honors, could it be that the media and we, the majority, continue to overlook many of what could be the greatest inspirational stories of our time? Could it be that many of those who are most deserving of our celebrations are going unrecognized?
Due to life-threatening illnesses, incurable diseases and unfortunate accidents, countless children face a life of unimaginable challenges. Even the simplest of the challenges these children face on a day-to-day basis would make our worst days seem sadly insignificant in comparison. The consistent strength, courage and motivation of these kids to overcome these daily challenges have and will continue to serve as a prodigious inspiration and blessing to every life they touch. So now it is their time to receive the long overdue celebration and honors for their contributions to our lives!
Please join us for this red carpet event and awards ceremony filled with limousines, guest appearances by media and sports celebrities, elegant dresses, and great entertainment as we honor these special kids for their achievements and continuing to serve as an inspiration to each of us.
Of course, no celebrity actually would feel like a celebrity without a mob of adoring fans taking pictures and asking for his/her autograph. So please bring your camera, camcorder, pen and paper and help make these kids realize what SUPERSTARS they are!

Greenville Ave. St. Paddy's Day Parade |
Feb 16 2008 |
SCC has been officially named as the benefitting charity of the Greenville Ave. St. Paddy's Day Parade. This means that in exchange for all of our volunteer support, the Dallas Observer, the Greenville Avenue Business Association (G.A.B.A.) and Desperados restaurant have all pledged significant financial and advertising donations. This parade will contribute more than ever to our efforts to touch the lives of our D/FW youths in need. This is a big step for us in the evolution and growth of SCC and our impact on our local children. We are pleased to announce new ways to volunteer for this event which will significantly impact the extra money donated to SCC. In addition to having fun with the parade participants while managing the floats and escorting them down the parade routes, we have new opportunities for volunteers to operate the beer serving stations all through the afternoon at the main concert where Ghostland Observatory, among others, will be performing. These ‘beer-tenders’ will be having fun all afternoon listening to the concert bands, while earning money for SCC at the same time!! For every hour each volunteer works at the serving stations, a significant donation will be made to SCC on that volunteer’s behalf. That’s $$$ per hour per volunteer. We need about 20 volunteers for about 7 hours each in order to cover this opportunity. Volunteers will be operating with tickets, not cash. And, they will only be serving beer. This is very exciting. Tips will be pooled from all serving stations and will serve as another donation on behalf of each of the ‘beer-tenders’. Of course, in addition to these donations, the G.A.B.A. and the Dallas Observer have committed funds which are slated directly for an after-school education program for the D/FW area schools, as well as for the All Kids Count party at Circle K Ranch for local special needs children and their families, and other events. The Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade provides a great way for all of us to have FUN while raising awareness and funds to support the many children and families who are in need of special help throughout the year. We are proud to work with the Dallas Observer, the G.A.B.A., Desperados Restaurant and especially with our amazing volunteers without whom we could not touch so many lives.
